One in five Americans report that they or a family member have experienced a medical error of some kind. This could be a fall, an infection, a medication error, a surgical error or an equipment malfunction. Nationally, this means that there are about 23 million people with at least one family member who experienced an illness, injury or even death while under the care of healthcare professionals. When a patient returns home, a new set of safety precautions take place.
